Das fünfte Album von Thijs Kuijken aka „I am Oak“ namens „Our Blood“ startete mit zaghaften Songfragmenten auf der Akustikgitarre, emanzipierte sich dann aber Schicht für Schicht von dem traditionellen folky Sound, der seine bisherigen Platten auszeichnete. Zentrales Motiv von „Our Blood“ ist der Verlust eines geliebten Menschen. Kuijken dazu: „The album revolves around an impending loss, seeing it come in closer and closer, experiencing it, being confused by it and subsequently dealing with it. It explores how the death – of either a bond or a body– is a part of life and how it can also go beyond sorrow alone“. Verlust als Aufbruch also, als Nährboden, auf dem wieder etwas Neues, Positives entstehen kann.
